Client types are extra classifications that you can use to define your clients (e.g., senior, student, veteran). You can assign more than one type to a client. Once you set up and assign client types, you can use them:

How to create or remove client types

  1. Click in the "Search for or jump to a client" field, and select Advanced client lookup in the menu.

  2. Select Tools, and choose Client Types.

  3. Enter a name in the Name field, under the Add a New Client Type section.

  4. Click Add New Client Type to save.

  5. The list of client types you create will appear below the Add New section. Here you can enable each type as Active, inactive, or delete to remove permanently. If you make changes here, be sure to click Update at the bottom.

How to assign a client type to a client

Client types are assigned to clients through the Client Info screen. Use the "Search for or jump to a client" field at the top left of your site to search for a client.

  1. On the Client Info screen, click to expand the Client Types section.
  2. Click the Assign link.
  3. Check the client types that you want the client to be associated with.
  4. Click the Update Client Types button at the bottom to save.

Client types can also be automatically assigned to clients who attend a specific class, provided that option has been enabled in the Additional Options section of the class setup screen.

  1. Go to Home > Services & Pricing > Classes.
  2. Click on the name of the specific class.
  3. Click Additional Options to open the dropdown menu.
  4. Click Select next to "Auto-assigned client types."
  5. Select the client types(s) to assign.
  6. Click Save at the bottom.

Client indexes vs. client types

Client types are similar to client indexes, and both could actually be used to manage the same information. However, each one has its advantages:

  • Client types are good for survey-type information because a client can have multiple client types. For example, client types could be "Yoga," "Pilates," and "Spin." A client who participates in all of these activities could have all three client types checked.
  • Client indexes are more structured and offer a wide range of values, but a client is allowed only one value per index. For example, if your client index is "Age," your client can be assigned only one age range index value (e.g., 20-29).
